The Rotary Peace Park at Bestari Jaya had a special visitor in His Excellency Pascal H. Gregoire, the Ambassador of Belgium, who joined Hug-Our-Tree (HOT) volunteers and Rotarians in the planting of tecoma and coconut trees on 31st October, 2021.
Ambassador Pascal was briefed by Ir. Nirinder Singh Johl, the President of Hug-Our-Tree and Assistant Governor of Rotary District 3300 Malaysia, on the overall concept of the Rotary Peace Park and its partners including Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and District Action Group on Environmental Sustainability (DAGES).
The slight drizzle did not dampen the spirit of Ambassador Pascal in rolling up his sleeves in joining the volunteers and Rotarians in the planting of 35 Tecoma and 25 Coconut trees.
“I am very impressed by the passion demonstrated from Rotary and Hug-Our-Tree NGO as well as LUAS in contributing to the greening of the Earth. Indeed, this is a very laudable initiative that must be applauded especially since it is being done on a former tin-mining land. The reforestration efforts are highly commendable,” said Ambassador Pascal.
More than 25 volunteers spent their Sunday in the planting of trees.
A week earlier, the British High Commissioner to Malaysia, His Excellency Charles Hay, visited the Rotary Peace Park at Bestari Jaya as well.
“We are extending invitations to more Heads of Diplomatic Missions in Malaysia to visit the Rotary Peace Park and to share with them the various activities that are being planned here,” added Ir. Nirinder Singh Johl.
“ We are also working with various companies and corporations in the private sector to support our tree planting activities at the Rotary Peace Park,” continued Ir. Nirinder.
